Microsoft takes a decisive step forward in the race for computing power. This Wednesday, the company unveiled Super Factor, an artificial intelligence factory located in Atlanta. This two-story complex of buildings goes far beyond the scope of a traditional data center.
Super Factor, a one-of-a-kind supercomputer
Super Factor brings together several hundred thousand latest-generation Nvidia GPUs. An ultra-fast flat network connects all the processors to each other. This architecture delivers performance multiplied by ten compared to the fastest current supercomputer. Unlike classic cloud centers, Super Factor operates as a single giant machine.
The Fairwater network, a globally interconnected web
Super Factor is integrated into Microsoft’s Fairwater network. Each site communicates instantly with the others. The goal is to mobilize colossal power on a planetary scale. These factories power OpenAI, Microsoft AI, Copilot, and numerous third-party applications.
Titanic construction sites already in service
The Fairwater site in Wisconsin gives the measure of these ambitions. It spans 130 hectares of land. Three buildings total more than 110,000 m². The construction required kilometers of cables, tons of steel, and deep foundations. Microsoft will double its total data center footprint within two years.

A strategic lead in the AI battle
With Super Factor, Microsoft sets a major milestone. The competition is first and foremost about infrastructure. The American company takes a decisive lead. The era of supercomputers dedicated to artificial intelligence has begun.
